I was born in Pocatello, Idaho in 19..... well let's not go back that far. Am I the only one who missed summer this year? I thought an opening day fishing trip with Ryan would be the start of a jammed packed exciting summer, and now it's November already. Looking back I'll have to admit to squeezing some fun in. Kim and I did go camping at the Old Mill in Geribaldi on the Oregon Coast where we went crabbing in Tillamook Bay, That was a lot of fun. We found time to get out on "Blown Away" our sailboat. Although a trailered sailboat is the way to go, (you avoid hundreds of dollars in monthly moorage costs) launching is not a small thing. It takes 45 minutes to an hour to raise (step) the mast, secure all the standing rigging, run all the running rigging, attach the sails, install the rudder.... I'm tired just explaining it. And then when you come back in....you get to do it all backwards. It's worth it and sailing is a lot of fun, but we decided we could use a more versatile boat (we tried trolling for salmon with the sailboat) so a few weeks ago we found a very nice 20' Seaswirl Striper and bought it.
It's more boat than we could afford, but since it needed some engine work it came into our price range. That same week I mentioned buying a boat that needed work to a friend that comes by work with a snack truck. He said it was too bad I already got one because he has one he is going to give away. Well it didn't take me long to jump on that. You wouldn't believe this boat, It's a 26' Reinell cabin cruiser and it's in very reasonable condition considering he hadn't used it in three years. It's literally a motorhome on the water. He has had it in a marina and been paying $260 a month for many years so he just wanted to get rid of that payment. I was able to get a trailer from Marvin so I could get it out of the water and not pay moorage. It needs some work to be up and running but it'll be a great boat to have here around the Puget sound.
Wow, great pictures. Looks like a lot of fun. Glad you have this set up, looking forward to more updates.
ReplyDeleteMissed summer? What the heck? That's more summer than I've seen since having kids. :P
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to read/see what you've been up to. It sounds like a lot of fun. I wish our fam would get together more. Maybe you'll have to show me how to catch fish from a boat... we ain't to good good at that here.... er maybe I can blame that on the girls. :)
Well, Lisa's got a blog with her and the kids' stuff on it, I may just have to hijack it now and then or kick off my old blog again.
love ya,
Ry
